| About Xpress Mail |
|
|
Cingular Xpress Mail
was designed to allow secure real-time access to corporate
email, contacts and calendar from various wireless devices
utilizing Cingular's newer high speed data network.
It is most commonly used for business people who must dial
in to their corporate network via a secure VPN to access
email or restricted information.

Main Features:
|
| If you work for
a business which has an IT department I would defiantly
recommend speaking to them about installing this software
on your office computer as it may create a potential security
risk if not set up correctly. In addition your IT
department may need to provide additional access
for you through the company firewall. In order
to access your email from your phone, your desktop computer
must be on and connected to the internet. In some
cases, especially for laptop users, Xpress Mail may not
provide the support they need, as most commonly they will
be carrying their laptop with them on the road at the same
time they would want to access email. In this case please explore newer Windows Mobile Devices which can sync directly over the air with your Small Business Server. |

|
 |
| How it works: |
| Xpress Mail
works as a proxy server, transferring the email and data
from your desktop to your phone. Basically when you
check the mail on your phone you are dialing back via the
internet to your desktop. A command is given to your desktop and your
desktop uses your mail client (Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc.) to retrieve mail. The
mail or data is then forwarded to your mobile device.
Support For:
- Email (Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell,
IMAP & POP3
- Calendar Functions
- Corporate Directories
- Personal Contacts
- Documents

| POP vs. IMAP |
|
When setting up your device you have
two main options. POP3 and IMAP. POP3 utilizes
the Post Office Protocol to receive mail. This option
is a quick and easy way to receive your mail however IMAP
is more robust protocol and allows you to track you messages
a little better. Depending on your email provider
you may have the choice between the two protocols.
In most cases I would recommend the IMAP protocol, as it
will keep track of your sent and received messages and synchronize
with your desktop. In most cases items sent from your
phone using the POP3 protocol will not update to your desktop.

| |
|
If you purchased Xpress Mail to access
your companies corporate email from your phone you will
need either the POP or IMAP and SMTP settings for your specific
companies' email server.
